Before you travel to Ecuador, you should have the following vaccines:

  • Current tetanus booster

  • Typhoid shot (there is still typhoid in some places in Ecuador)

  • Hepatitis A and B

  • Malaria Prophylaxis (depending on the places visited)

Only the western-most areas of the Zamora-Chinchipe province (close to the Peruvian border) are a malaria risk areas.   However, during most of our tours we'll not visit these malaria prone areas so malaria drugs are not essential.  Nonetheless, your are free to consult your physician for further advice.

Ecuador is a yellow fever country, specially its lowland Amazon areas.  However, unless you are taking part in an eco-expedition or in the llaquipanga eco-adventure tour, you do not need a yellow fever vaccination.  Medical personnel might ask you about your yellow fever vaccination but you should just state that you will not be in the Amazon lowlands, if this is the case.

It is also essential that your doctor clears you for the higher elevations (9,000 to 11,000 feet).  Bring along all the medication you normally take and hand-carry it in the original prescription container.  If you have allergies of any kind, please pack an epi-pen kit and carry it with you at all times during the trip.  Please let Ecuador Tierra Viva Travel Company staff know of any medical condition, so that we can prepared accordingly for any eventuality.
