The Arcoiris Ecological Foundation is the owner and manager of the San Francisco Lodge (SFL). This lodge has an environmental interpretation room, a kitchen, a dinning room, two large rooms, three small rooms, one shower with hot water and two toilets. The SFL is located at 2,100 meters above sea level and has a temperature that ranges between 12 to 18 degrees Celsius. The lodge lies within the buffer zone of the Podocarpus National Park and is located within the Province of Zamora-Chinchipe. It takes 40 minutes to travel from the city of Loja to SFL. This lodge gets its name from the San Francisco River, which passes nearby, and is one of the few sites where the podocarpus tree, the only native conifer of Ecuador, can easily be seen. The San Francisco area has four trails that run through its cloud forest and more than 300 species of birds have been registered to this day. Please note that you have to bring in your own groceries and cook for meals because apart from the park ranger in duty, most of the time there is nobody else at this lodge. Price: $14 US per person per night. This price includes Ecuadorian taxes (22%). To book a room at this lodge use our on-line room reservation. |
